KENT CODA ist ein auf Türkisch und Englisch singendes Indie-Folk- Duo aus Köln. Anfang 2010, 6 Jahre nach Bandgründung, beschließen Ögünc und Christoph sich auf ihrem neuen Album von den Einschränkungen eines konventionellen Rockschlagzeugs zu lösen, die E-Gitarre gegen eine akustische zu tauschen und mehr mit Mundharmonika und tanzbaren Electro-Beats zu arbeiten als sich härterem Indie-Rock hinzugeben. Im Zentrum der neu eingeschlagenen Richtung steht nun noch viel ausgeprägter die Bass-Bariton-Stimme von Ögünc, der auf Türkisch über das Leben mit all seinen schönen wie schlechten Seiten singt. Man findet bestimmt Zeilen, die Dinge beschreiben, die jeder so oder so ähnlich auch schon einmal gefühlt hat – egal wo man herkommt. Der Klang der türkischen Sprache wird einen automatisch in den Bann ziehen.

Im Laufe der letzten Jahre haben sich KENT CODA vor allem in der türkischen Szene NRWs ein Namen als Support von türkischen Rockgrößen wie “Mor ve ötesi” (Eurovison-song-contest-Teilnehmer 2008), “Manga” (Eurovison-song-contest-Teilnehmer 2010) oder “Duman” (u.A. in dem Film “Crossing the bridge” von Fatih Akin mitwirkend). 2005 wurde die Gruppe vom Deutschen Musikrat auserkoren, an dem zweiwöchigen Workshop “Popcamp” teilzunehmen.

Die Band hat bisher drei Alben aufgenommen: Forever or a minute (2004; umsonst zum Herunterladen auf der Bandhomepage), Benim evim nere?! (2009; beinhaltet 7 Lieder von 2007 und 4 Lieder von 2009) mit den Live-Publikumslieblingen “Sen baskasin” und “Huu huu huu” (hierzu wurden auch Videoclips gedreht) und die EP Kacacak yer yok (2011) mit den Hits “Salter attiginda”, “Leyla” and “Bil ki sen…”.

KENT CODA is an indie-folk duo from Cologne that sings in both Turkish and English. In January 2010, 7 years after founding the band, Ögünc and Christoph decide to free themselves from the restrictions of a conventional drumset, to change the electric guitar to an acoustic one and to work with danceable electronic beats and a harmonica rather than dedicating themselves to heavy indie rock. Ögünc´s bass-baritone voice represents the unique center of the new direction. He sings in Turkish about life with all its good and bad sides. Everyone will discover lines describing emotions that she or he has already experienced exactly like that – no matter where you come from. The sound of the Turkish words will not fail to fascinate.
In 2005-2010, Kent Coda has made itself a name predominantly in Germany´s Turkish rock scene by playing as opening act for stars like “Mor ve ötesi” (Eurovision song contest participant 2008), “Manga” (Eurovision song contest participant 2010) or “Duman” (appearing in the Fatih Akin movie “Crossing the Bridge”). In 2005, the group was chosen to participate in the nationally acclaimed workshop “Popcamp”, an initiative of the German music council.
The band has recorded 3 albums: Forever or a minute from 2004 (available for free on the band´s homepage), Benim evim nere?! from 2009 (containing 7 songs from 2007 and 4 songs from 2009) with standout tracks “Sen baskasin” and “Huu huu huu” (watch youtube for videoclips) and the EP Kacacak yer yok from 2011 with the hits “Leyla”, “Salter attiginda” and “Bil ki sen…”.
